What are lactation cookies?

Lactation cookies are regular cookies that are packed with galactagogues from oats, flax and brewer’s yeast that are great for boosting milk supply.

They taste just like your favorite oatmeal chocolate chip cookie AND increases breastmilk production. Our cookies come in Oats and Chocolate Chip, Cranberry and White Chocolate and Chocolate Chai.

Had one...even if you aren't a breastfeeder/mom? Don't worry, these cannot make you lactate if you aren't nursing. 

What are galactagogues?

A substance that increases milk supply is called a galactagogue. Some of the galactagogues used in our products are:

Oats - Possesses amazing health properties in addition to being a super galactagogue. They are high in fibre, B vitamins, manganese, phosphorous and magnesium, they are seen as a ‘nourishing’ grain and also a ‘carminative’ in the herbal world.

Brewer's Yeast - A good source of iron, chromium and selenium, brewer's yeast also contains several B vitamins, though not B-12. Brewer's yeast has a history of use as a galactagogue.

Flaxseed - High in omega-3 and dietary fibre. It contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and potassium.

Fenugreek - Fenugreek has been found to increase milk supply in some women, especially in the early days of breastfeeding.

Blessed Thistle - Not all mothers naturally produce enough breast milk. Blessed thistle is a galactagogue herb that helps to stimulate lactation naturally. It helps to increase prolactin that boosts the normal milk supply of lactating mothers. It also helps to increase oxytocin that helps to enable the release of milk from the nipples. Most new mothers face this problem so blessed thistle helps in releasing milk in a natural way. 

Blessed thistle promotes lactation in a great way and it helps to relieve digestive issues as well. The herb also has antibacterial and antifungal properties that prevent diseases, the benefit of which is passed on to babies through breastfeeding.

Fennel SeedFennel is also rich in galactagogue properties that help to increase the breast milk supply in nursing mothers. In fact, the herb was earlier used as an herbal treatment for breastfeeding problems. It also has estrogen properties that help to increase the breast milk supply. Fennel promotes healthy digestion in mother and baby both, helping to ease the colic issue of the baby.

Lemon Verbena - Lemon verbena is truly beneficial for new mothers as well as mothers who breastfeed their babies. It has natural galactagogue properties that help to increase the breast milk supply. Lemon verbena has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that help babies to remain healthy and free of infections.

Red Raspberry Leaf - These leaves has postpartum benefits. It has natural properties that can help to increase breast milk supply in nursing mothers after pregnancy. The herb also helps the uterus return to pre-pregnancy size. It reduces postpartum depression that is common in most women after giving birth.

Nettle - eing a galactagogue, it stimulates milk production and helps increase the milk supply of nursing moms. The herb is also rich in iron and other important nutrients. The benefits of the herb can be passed on to the baby while breastfeeding. The herb is effective in relieving gastric and indigestion problems as well.

How many cookies should I eat to see results?

Based on my experience and that of other mothers, 1 - 2 cookies a day gives sufficient results. This amount can be adjusted based on the results you see. 

Just remember, you get maximum results with having our cookies in conjunction with regular breastfeeding/nursing and proper hydration, 2L minimum.

How long can my cookies and mix packs last?

Our lactation cookies have a shelf life of 6 - 8 weeks from manufacture. This can be extended an additional 2 weeks if stored in the refrigerator.

Our Hot Cocoa Mixes and Granola has shelf lives of at least 9 months.

​

Our teas, being made of all natural herbs has a shelf life of 9 - 12 months.
